BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad will be the new Bihar Deputy Chief Minister with Sushil Kumar Modi expected to be moved to Delhi for a post in the union cabinet, according to several media reports.

“I’ have been given this responsibility and I will carry out the duty to the best of my ability: Tarkishore Prasad after being elected as leader of BJP legislature party in Bihar,” Prasad said.

The MLA from Bihar’s Katihar, Prasad was elected the BJP’s leader in the assembly a day before Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as Chief Minister for the fourth time. Prasad has replaced Nand Kishore Yadav as in-charge of BJP legislators, including members of the legislative assembly and council.

Who is Tarkishore Prasad?

The 64-year-old politician, Tarkishore Prasad is a member of the legislative assembly of Bihar from the Katihar constituency. He won the elections for MLA in 2015 as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The 12th pass BJP leader defeated RJD’s Dr Ram Prakash Mahato by more than 12,000 votes and won the election for the fourth consecutive time from Katihar seat. He had given a shot to the JDU candidate last time.

According to the Bihar Assembly Elections 2020 affidavit, Prasad is a millionaire politician. His main profession involves trade and agriculture. Prasad’s total declared property is Rs 1.9 crore, with movable property of Rs 49.4 lakh and real estate worth Rs 1.4 crore. The leader’s total declared income is 3.7 lakh, with his income of Rs 3.7 lakh.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, a meeting of the NDA was held where Nitish Kumar was named as the leader, paving the way for his return as chief minister for the fourth consecutive term.
