New Delhi: In less than a days time after Congress announced chief Rahul Gandhi’s candidature for Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) released the name of its candidate against the Amethi Member of Parliament (MP).
BJP president Amit Shah, tweeted on Monday, announcing the candidate. “I proudly announce Shri Thushar Vellappally, President of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena as NDA candidate from Wayanad. A vibrant and dynamic youth leader, he represents our commitment towards development and social justice. With him, NDA will emerge as Kerala’s political alternative,” Shah wrote.

Who is Thushar Vellappally? NDA candidate against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad
- Thushar Vellappally is the son of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) founder Vellappally Natesan – who came up with the party in December 2015. Thushar is the current chief of the party and is an ally of the NDA.
- Besides being the BDJS founder, Vellappally Natesan is also the General Secretary for Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) in Kerala – a social, cultural unit in Kerala.
- The organisation is known to play a major role in empowering the community of Ezhavas in the state, particularly in the southern and central parts of Kerala.
- Thushar is the state convenor of NDA in Kerala. His candidature was earlier announced for the Thrissur constituency.
- Wayanad constituency consists of 49.48 per cent Hindu population, including Ezhavas, 28.65 per cent Muslims and 21.43 per cent Christians.
Though BDJS doesn’t have much presence in the ground, alongwith allies it comess as third front in the Kerala politics.Kerala has over the years has only been ruled by either the Left or the Congress party.
