Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh was crowned as Miss World 2019 on December 14, beating her contenders from France and India. Suman Rao, who represented India in the annual beauty pageant, came in third while France’s Ophely Mezino came in a close second.

Singh, who had secured her place in the top 40 by winning the talent competition at the “Beauty with a Purpose” Gala Dinner in London, advanced to the final round of the competition along with Miss Nigeria, Miss Brazil, Miss India and Miss France.

In addition to dancing to Jamaican singer Koffee’s Toast, she also performed her version of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” live.

Born in Jamaica’s Morant Bay, Toni-Ann shifted to the US at the age of nine and settled in Florida. The 23-year-old graduated from the Florida State University in Tallahassee with a degree in women’s studies and psychology.

Singh, who is the fourth Jamaican woman to win the beauty pageant, enjoys singing, cooking, vlogging, volunteering and singing in her spare time. The most important thing in her life, according to the Miss World website, is her mother, who she credits for allowing and supporting her to pursue her dreams in every way possible.

Toni-Ann, after winning the Miss Jamaica World 2019 contest, represented Jamaica in the Miss World 2019 pageant.

Jamaica won the Miss World title after a decade-long gap, with Lisa Hanna winning the title in 1993. Previously, Jamaica had won the title in 1963 and 1976.
