New Delhi, Feb 20 (IANS) Hours back when a video went viral on social media of a sensational murder inside an SUV on Delhi roads, it was said the victim was an accused in an attempted murder case. New details show, Pawan alias Anchil Thakur’s was actively involved in students’ politics.

Unidentified men on Wednesday night in Rohini district shot dead Anchil, who was recently released from jail.

The victim was travelling in his Scorpio car in Ladpur Kanjhawala area when his attackers in a Hyundai i20 car fired around 45 rounds of bullets at him, a senior police officer who was on spot said.

Pawan was a resident of Rohini’s Karala village.

On his Facebook profile, Anchil claims that he was the Sports president of Akhil Bhartiya Vidarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The students’ wing of RSS has denied that Anchil was a member of the student wing. “He was never connected us, above all there is no post called sports president in our organisation,” a senior state official of ABVP told IANS.

But for those who knew Anchil from his college days, they claim he was for long associated with ABVP and had also contested for Motilal Nehru College’s student union elections. He had lost the poll.

Anchil was also said to be very close to Mohit Mor, who was shoot dead last year. It was said that More was shoot dead due to an ongoing gang was in Najafgarh.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mohit Mor was sitting in a photocopy shop and scrolling through his smartphone when two young men barged in wearing helmets, pointed guns at him, and said, “Let us make you a TikTok star.” They fired so many bullets into him that even his teeth were found in pieces when the police came.

Anchil Thakur was on the other hand referred as an “goon” by people who knew him since his college days.

“He was always into ‘gundagardi’, there was time in Motilal Nehru college that the college was known as a hub of criminals and Anchil was a big part of it,” a former student of Moti Lal Nehru and a senior of member of ABVP who requested anonymity told IANS.

According to Delhi Police officials, Anchil Thakur was an accused in attempt to murder case and was out on bail for three months now.

He though opted out of active student politics, but continued to back candidates in various students’ union elections of different college of Delhi University.

Anchil Thakur though had cut off his contacts with ABVP after one of his friends went ahead to join National Students Union of India (NSUI) — that said friend later went on to become a DUSU president.
