Why Bonham Carter thought she would never work in Hollywood

Los Angeles, Nov 13 (IANS) Actress Helena Bonham Carter says she grew up believing actresses were extinct at 40.

In an interview to Town and Country magazine, Bonham Carter has revealed that when she was younger she thought she would never be able to work in Hollywood because she had fat legs, reports dailymail.co.uk.

“When I grew up, you were kind of extinct at 40 — and the parts weren’t very interesting. It was always the girlfriend or the wife, and you were described in terms of what you looked like. I remember having such a complex because I thought I’d never work in Hollywood because I’ve got fat legs. Now it doesn’t matter,” Bonham Carter said.

The actress is set to transform into Princess Margaret in the much-anticipated third season of “The Crown”. She is taking over the role from Vanessa Kirby.

Discussing Princess Margaret as a woman who ‘couldn’t pretend to be anything but herself’, Bonham Carter opened up about her encounter with the royal, saying: “One of her idiosyncrasies was complimenting somebody and putting them down at the same time”.

“She once said to me, ‘Oh, you’re getting so much better at acting’, and I thought that was really funny,” she added.

Of how she thinks the Princess would react to Bonham Carter playing her on TV, she said: “I think she’d be grateful that I was getting better, since she’s been entrusted to me. If I was a s**t actress, it would be like, ‘Oh no, not her!'”
