Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is all set to release on the OTT platform ‘Disney+Hotstar’. Now that the film nears its release (November 9), netizens have been demanding a ban on the release of the film. And now, Twitterati is trending #ShameOnUAkshayKumar on the microblogging site.

Recently, an inter-faith advertisement released by  Titan Ltd owned jewellery brand Tanishq had outraged netizens. A group of social media users believed that the advertisement promoted ‘Love-jihad’ and was anti-Hindu in sentiment. #Boycott Tanishq trended all day on Twitter on Monday, with many asking for a ban on the controversial advertisement.

Followed by this, now #ShameOnUAkshayKumar is trending on Twitter today as in the upcoming movie the actor has played a character of a Muslim boy, Asif and Kiara Advani will be seen as Hindu girl, Priya.

Why #ShameOnUAkshayKumar is trending on Twitter?

Netizens are urging everyone to boycott  ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ for various reasons:

  • Produced by a Kashmiri separatist, Shabina Khan, netizens believe that in the movie Aasif (Akshay) is possessed by the ghost of transgender Laxmi that wears a red saree & carries Trishul. The official teaser has Ma Laxmi in the backdrop. In non-ghost life, Aasif’s girlfriend is Priya. Therefore, the movie is promoting anti-nationalism and love-jihad.
  • Some people believe Akshay’s film must be boycotted as the title of the movie is mocking Goddess Lakshmi.
  • A section of social media also believes that Akshay Kumar with his stint in his upcoming movie has mocked Hindutva.
  • On October 3, Akshay Kumar shared a video on his Twitter account breaking his silence against the rampant allegations of drug abuse in Bollywood. What followed was the Twitteratis trending #BanLaxmmiBomb and requesting the audience to boycott his movie.

Laxmmi Bomb was even downranked on IMDB. However, all this took a toll on a 2017 film titled Tikli and Laxmi Bomb, created by independent filmmaker Aditya Kripalani. Mistaking it for Laxmmi Bomb, trolls downranked Aditya’s film, which had a TRP of 4.3 out of 5 in IMDB.
