With BJP hope Krishan Middha winning by a decent margin of near 13 thousand votes, making a first win for the saffron party in the constituency, Monday’s speculations of an early elections in Haryana only gets more strength.
Jind was seen as a strong litmus test for the Bhartiya Janata Party. Though, the party has never won in the Jat land, after the state witnessed the wreckage between the Choudhary Devi Lal founded party Indian National Lok Dal(INLD) and the son of the last Jind MLA Hari Chand Middha sided to the BJP, the party was seen as the favorites. Political temperatures raised to an all time high when Congress announced their senior Spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala as the candidate hope for the bypoll elections and a strong four-way fight began to be anticipated between JJP’s independent candidate, BJP, Congress and INLD.
Haryana Assembly Elections with the General Elections?
The Assembly elections in the state is scheduled to take place in October along with Maharashtra. But a report on Monday suggested that the state elections could well take place around with the General Elections time, warding off the ill-wills of anti-incumbency cry that could follow and using the popularity at the centre to make a comeback for another term.
This is not the first time when the government could call for early elections. Only last year Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrashekar(KCR) resigned nine months short of their term of five years. In the elections that followed KCR came to power once again with a whopping majority, winning more than 46 percent of the total votes casted. TRS registered 88 seats to their name out of 119 that were up for grabs.
In 2004, riding on the Shining India campaign Bharatiya Janata Party recommended a premature dissolution, calling for an early election. In the General Elections BJP saw a downfall of 44 seats, taking their tally to 138, while Congress won 145. The Congress-led UPA alliance saw the support of other big parties such as Left Front, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, bringing them to power.
15 years later, BJP has the same situation at its hands. Will it? Won’t it? Registering a comfortable win in Jind election is making the reality of early elections truer than ever.
