Follow Newsd On

World Tumor Day is observed on June 8 every year. To spread awareness about this deadly condition and to ensure its early diagnosis, was first initiated by the German Brain Tumor Association (GBTA) way back in 2000. This day is celebrated globally as a tribute to brain tumor patients and their families.

A malignant brain tumor is very common in Germany as more than 8,000 people suffer from these diseases only in Germany. More than 500 new cases are diagnosed with a brain tumor every day worldwide. Number of patients with tumors that cause brain metastases is even higher than that. This is the most common type of cancer among children.

What is Brain Tumor?

According to experts and doctors, a Brain tumor is a disorder where the brain cells multiply abnormally. These tumours can either be malignant (cancerous) or it could be non-cancerous(benign). The grading of the tumour from 1 to 4 depends upon the location and how fast the cells multiply and spread to other vital organs. It can originate in any part of your brain like membranes, cranial nerves, pituitary gland or pineal gland.

If you have a family history of brain tumors or have undergone any treatment that involves exposure to radiation, your risk of the condition goes up automatically.

Types of Brain Tumor:

Causes of Brain Tumor:

Researchers believe that exposure to certain chemicals and radiation and a family history of brain tumors are the main causes of the condition. However, the apt cause is not known yet.

Diagnosis of Brain Tumor:

  • Neurological Examination
  • PET Scan
  • Cerebral Angiogram
  • Functional MRI
