World Health Day 2023: Every year on April 7, the World Health Organization highlights a particular wellness and medical-related topic. From mental health to insurance and beyond, this day sets the tone for future events on the international stage. This year’s this Day will focus on nurses and midwives, the on-call, restless workforce that revolutionised the modern healthcare industry.
WHEN IS WORLD HEALTH DAY 2023?
On April 7, we celebrate the unparalleled value of good health on This Day. On this day, physical, mental, and emotional well-being are promoted and celebrated globally under the leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO).
HISTORY OF WORLD HEALTH DAY
To discuss World Health Day, we must discuss the establishment of the World Health Organization as a whole. In December 1945, Brazilian and Chinese officials proposed the formation of an international health organisation that would be all-inclusive and completely independent of government control.
In July 1946, a half-year later, in New York, the World Health Organization’s constitution was approved. The aforementioned constitution went into effect on April 7, 1948, when 61 countries signed an agreement to establish the NGO.
As one of the first official acts of WHO, they created the This Day celebration. It was originally observed on July 22, 1949, but the date was changed to April 7, the date of WHO’s founding, to encourage student participation.
Since 1950, the WHO Director-General has chosen a new theme and theme for This Day each year, based on suggestions from member governments and WHO staff.
World Health Day is an opportunity for the international community to focus on vital public health issues that affect the entire world. On the occasion of World Health Day, promotional campaigns are initiated that last well beyond April 7.
World Health Day 2020 will highlight the vital role played by nurses and midwives in providing health care around the globe. Advocacy events will be held around the world, including the launch of the first-ever State of the World’s Nursing Report, which will provide planning to maximise the contributions of the nursing workforce, with a similar report on the midwifery workforce to be completed in 2021.
The Traditions of the Day
On World Health Day, people all over the world have campaigned vigorously for health issues and access to healthcare since the day’s inception. Every year, the World Health Organization selects a new theme for this day, which is highlighted in schools, seminars, workshops, and online forums. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness about the health issues of the needy and disadvantaged in impoverished regions of the world, as well as to remind us to be grateful for our health and to take better care of ourselves.
As well as charity drives and fundraisers, outdoor activities like hiking and cycling are organised. As a result of our stressful lifestyles, mental health is of utmost importance and is frequently overlooked. Therefore, mediation and therapy are strongly recommended. Naturally, you are what you eat, so the meals of the day and restaurant specials are all about maintaining a healthy diet.

It is an opportunity to learn something new.
By selecting a new topic each year, World Health Day ensures that we are continually educated! Each year, WHO selects a topic based on an urgent health issue and dedicates a week to conferences and activities on the subject.
It brings us closer together.
World Health Day is also a good time to consider your own health. Conversations can reduce the stigma associated with illness and encourage more people to seek treatment.
