World homeopathy day is celebrated each year on April 10. This day is celebrated to honor the birth of the father of the Homoeopathic system of medicines Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.

Born in Paris, France, he was a German physician, who was an acclaimed scientist, a great scholar, and linguist. He discovered the way to heal through the use of homeopathy. He died on July 2, 1843.

It means that a substance in which a small amount is taken will cure the same symptoms it causes if taken in large amounts. Homeopathy is derived from the Greek words homeo, which means similar, and pathos means suffering or disease.

World Homeopathy Day 2021: Origin and History

Homeopathy medicine was discovered by Dr. Samhuel Hahnemann who was a great scientist and a physician. He experimented on himself. He started studying the effects of the cinchona drug. He did a self-application to understand the effects. After the study, he concluded that the cinchona drug can induce malaria-like symptoms in a healthy human body, and gave the alternate system of medicines Homeopathy. According to homeopathy ‘similia similibus curantur’ i.e. likes can cure likes.

Hahnemann had a degree of MD. Later, Samuel quit his job to work as a translator. He then learned several languages such as English, French, Italian, Greek, and Latin of medical, scientific textbooks.

Homoeopathy Awareness Week is from April 10 to April 16, 2020. It is observed to celebrate the birth of Samuel Hahnemann, the father of Homoeopathy.

World Homeopathy in India

Homeopathy is one of the most popular medical systems in India. It is one of the Medicine systems in the AYUSH– ‘Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy’ ministry.

World Homoeopathy Day (WHD) is celebrated on 10 April and the day has become the red-letter day for the Homoeopathy profession because it is being celebrated under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India for the last few years in New Delhi.

This year the Ministry of AYUSH let NIH organise World Homoeopathy Day at Kolkata, the cradle of Homoeopathy in India.
