Every year, World Theatre Day is marked on March 27. This day was initiated in the year 1961 by the International Theatre Institute. The day is to appreciate the art form and various theatre events are also organized by ITI centers and the international theatre community to mark this day.
Also, the day has a particular theme of theatre every year and also to reach out to the world by spreading a World theatre message by a particular person. This year the theme is Theatre and Culture of peace.
Also, this day is marked to value the art form that was very popular at a point of time and is slowly and steadily becoming less popular.

History and Significance of World Theatre Day
The celebration to this day of art began in the year 1961. Famous theatre personalities depart a yearly message about their views and insight about the medium of theatre and its future.
The first World Theatre Day message was written by Jean Cocteau in 1962. His message as translated in 50 languages and was sent to everyone across the world. ITI has more than 85 centers across the world to encourage colleges, schools and theatre personalities to mark this day.
This year, Carlos Celdran from Cuba is the speaker of the World Theatre Day message. He is an award-winning theatre personality, director, playwright, academic, and professor. He being a great inspiration continues to help others by working as a professor at a high-level institution in Cuba, South America, and Europe.
