Zandie Khumalo’s Response to the Meyiwa Murder Trial

Zandie Khumalo restated her stance regarding her request for a media embargo, stating, “Whether there is a camera there or not, I’m just there to testify.” Zandie Khumalo has commented on her application to prevent the media from broadcasting her testimony during the Senzo Meyyiwa murder trial last month. In an interview with eNCA, she claimed she was acting within the confines of her state witness privilege. The defendant stated, “This is a democratic nation, and I was simply exercising my rights; I believe the court took about two days to accept my plea.” They determined that I was within my rights to exercise that, so I’m not sure why, given that I live in a democratic nation, this is abruptly causing a fuss.

Zandie was responding to the vicious social media attacks she had endured in response to the judge’s decision to continue airing the audio content despite her unsuccessful appeal. “My family and I have attempted to describe what transpired in detail on every platform available.” However, it appears that they make their own decisions and select their own listening material. I reasoned, “At this point, I owe no one anything; they’ve all had their chance; the court is the only entity before which I must testify.” Therefore, I declared, “They’ve had their chance.” I am simply there to testify, regardless of the presence of a camera. That is all.

Meyiwa was a custodian for the Orlando Pirates and the Bafana Bafana when he was allegedly murdered during a botched robbery in front of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi, sister Zandie, Zandie’s boyfriend Longwe Twala, and Meyiwa’s friends Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala.
