The Zojila pass connecting Jammu and Kashmir with Ladakh is going to open today i.e.28th February 2021 on Sunday. The traffic on Leh-Srinagar highway, which has been closed for the last about two months, will resume in the valley.
This is for the very first time, Zojila pass is opening about 1 month before its scheduled time. In normal circumstances, this pass opens in the second half of March..
The Zojila pass this time was closed for only 59 days due to heavy snowfall. Earlier, the Zojila pass used to be closed from 160 to 180 days and Ladakh was cut off from different parts of the country by road for about six months.
The Border Roads Organisation opened this pass a month ago while creating history. Lt Gen Rajiv Chaudhary, Director General, Border Roads Organisation visited Zojila Pass and encouraged the officers and staff who opened it before the time.
Zoji-La Pass will be opened on 28 Feb. First time in the history, Zojila will remain closed only for 59 days against 160 – 180 days traditionally.

Tourism in Ladakh will be boosted by the opening of Zojila Pass
Meanwhile, the opening of the Zojila pass will accelerate the promotion of tourism in Ladakh. It is a big challenge for the administration to deal with corona infections during this season.
In such a situation, the administration has already made preparations. It is mandatory for all tourists coming to Ladakh to undergo corona tests. Tourists have been instructed to come up with a report of the corona test being negative. In case of being tested positive, they can be quarantined as soon as they enter Ladakh.
