After the party won only one parliamentary seat in the state, Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajoy Kumar offered his resignation from his post on Monday, May 27. However, his resignation has not yet been accepted by the party yet.
Kumar took the ‘moral responsibility’ for party’s poor performance in Lok Sabha elections in the state, days after the PM Modi-led NDA swept to power bagging 352 of 542 seats.
In Jharkhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) Party alliance swept the polls, winning 12 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats while the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) bagged one each. Congress lost in Khunti by 1,400 votes and Lohardaga with 10,000 votes.

While Congress president Rahul Gandhi himself offered to quit, which was rejected, at the CWC meeting on Saturday, a bunch of resignation landed on his table with four state leaders quitting or offering to quit on Friday.
On Sunday, Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan also resigned from his position. He said that Rahul would take a call on the reshuffle and changes he wants to make in the party to rebuild it.
He added that the party leaders are fully with Rahul in his endeavours to make the party stronger in future.
