Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is likely to appoint veteran congress politician Ajay Maken as the chief of party’s Delhi unit following consultations with office bearers.

Maken is said to have expressed his reluctance to take up the new job, citing health reasons. A formal announcement for the same will be made after September 29, according to The Asian Age report.

The post for the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president unit fell vacant after the demise of former chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

Maken had resigned as the Delhi Congress chief in January, 2019 citing health reasons. “Since 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, I have got immense love and support as Delhi Congress President from party workers, the media and party President Rahul Gandhi. It was not easy in these difficult circumstances. I am grateful,” Maken had tweeted, announcing his resignation.
