Hours after softening his rift with Akhilesh, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said that the party was united and Akhilesh Yadav would be the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh after the elections.

“For the benefit of the entire state, our party stands united. There is no question of division whatsoever. We will begin the campaign soon. Akhilesh will be the next chief minister, there is no doubt about that,” Mulayam was quoted by ANI as saying.

Speaking to media in Delhi on Monday morning, Mulayam claimed that there was no difference between him and Akhilesh and one person has indirectly influenced Akhilesh, which has led to the problem in party.

Mulayam indirectly blamed Ramgopal Yadav, who backed Akhilesh during the feud, for the crisis.

Before heading to the EC headquarters, Mulayam sent a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari informing him about Ram Gopal’s expulsion from the party and to derecognise him as the SP’s leader in the House. He asked Ansari to shift Ram Gopal’s seat to the back benches.
