Upset after getting scolded by her husband for spending too much time on video sharing mobile application, a 24-year-old woman from Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu ended her life live on TikTok.
The woman identified as Anita, filmed her suicide on the app as she consumed pesticide and left behind a statement asking her husband to take care of their two kids.
Anitha hailed from Senthurai in Perambalur district and was married to Palanivel; the couple has a four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son. Palanivel who was in the agricultural trade moved to Singapore a few years ago for work.
Anitha was introduced to TikTok via her friend. Family members alleged that she was neglecting the family and kids due to her addiction to the video sharing app.
Palanivel called and warned her to quit TikTok and focus on her responsibilities, which angered Anitha very much. This led to her taking the drastic step of consuming poison and committing suicide, the video of which was uploaded by her on TikTok a few minutes before her death.
She was rushed to Ariyalur GH at first and later to a private hospital in Trichy, but she did not respond to treatment and died.
