Aligarh: On Wednesday while addressing the Booth members of Braj area, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that Aligarh Muslim University is not a minority institute and hence AMU must give reservation to Dalits and backward classes.

Adityanath reasoned that as AMU receive grant of crores it is not a minority institution, according to a News 18 report.

He further said, “I want to ask SP, BSP and Congress that if every institution gives reservation to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe, why Muslim University (AMU) doesn’t extend the same. All of these will come to you and divide you on caste and religious lines, but when the topic is about your right, they will not do anything.”

On Tuesday, reports suggested that the University has decided to waiting before the Supreme Court gives its verdict on the minority status before implementing the 10 per cent EWS quota.

Reportedly, minority institutions are exempted from implementing the 10 per cent EWS quota according to government officials.
