Former media executive, Indrani Mukerjea, was booked for rioting, destruction of property and causing injury to prison staff in Mumbai’s Byculla jail. She was among 200-odd jail inmates who were held responsible for the same.

The inmates were protesting against the death of Manjura Shetye, a 45-year-old woman prisoner, who was allegedly beaten to death last week. Six police officers have also been booked in the case.

Indrani, along with her husband and former media baron, Peter Mukerjea, and ex-husband, Sanjeev Khanna, has been accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, whom she had passed off as her sister for several years. The trio is currently serving their term in prison.

While Sheena was murdered on April 24, 2012, the case came to light after Indrani’s driver, Shyamwar Rai, was arrested in an arms case in 2015.
