AMU student expelled for ‘anti-national post’ on Facebook

Mudassar Yusuf, a student at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been expelled for posting an objectionable comment on Facebook after the Uri terror attack which left 18 soldiers dead. The vice-chancellor of the university took the decision to expel the student after personally probing the matter. He termed his post as ‘anti-national’ and ‘highly condemnable’.

Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (retd.) said, “No scope whatsoever at AMU for tolerating any incident which smacks of anti-national sentiments and there will be no compromise with the unity and integrity of the country at any cost”

Yusuf who is from Srinagar, Kashmir is pursuing M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry at AMU. When vice chancellor of the university took a serious view of his action, Yusuf offered his apologies for posting the comments stating that he was carried away by sentiments. But the university authorities decided to go ahead with his expulsion.

BJP MP from Aligarh, Satish Kumar Gautam had also written to the Vice Chancellor demanding strict action against Yusuf.
