A woman from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh has filed a sexual assault case against Phalahari Maharaj, a self-styled godman in Rajasthan. A FIR has been registered against Alwar’s Kaushalendra Phalahari Maharaj on the basis of the complaint of a 21-year-old woman. She accused Baba of sexually exploiting her and raping her on 7 August.
The woman also has said that baba, who has an extensive ashram in Alwar, threatened of dire consequences if she reports the matter. “A girl from Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur has lodged a sexual assault complaint against Baba Phalahari,” said Alwar SP, Rahul Prakash.
Reportedly, when police reached ashram, baba was admitted to a hospital complaining ill health. A team of officials is deployed outside the hospital to take him for questioning. “Babaji is currently hospitalized. There is a conspiracy to defame saints,” said a close aide.
