Apple iPhone Fold Leak: The long rumoured foldable iPhone is edging closer to reality. According to multiple trusted sources, Apple is preparing to unveil its first foldable handset, tentatively called the “Fold” (or sometimes “Foldable iPhone”) in 2026 earlier than many expected.
That said, some recent reports caution that the launch could slip into 2027 due to hinge/display challenges. So while 2026 is presently the speculation, it remains subject to change.
The foldable device from Apple is said to be launched in 2026 based on the analyst reports and the supply chain leaks. For instance, a note from JPMorgan predicts the reveal to be in September 2026, which is in line with the usual fall event when Apple announces new iPhones. At the same time, production is thought to start in late 2025 (Q3–Q4) to be able to deliver it in 2026.
Ming-Chi Kuo came back to the surface in March 2025, supporting the announcement of the device in late 2026 or early 2027 and manufacturing in Q4 2026. It was also in the same month that Mark Gurman wrote about the iPhone Fold launch 2026, which another report confirmed 2025 May.
Gurman also shared an update in May regarding a 2026 or 2027 timeframe for the launch.
Kuo mentioned in June that Foxconn would be starting a project to manufacture the first folding Apple iPhone around the end of Q3 or the beginning of Q4 2025, and mass production would likely be in the summer of 2026. This means a late 2026 or early 2027 release would be likely.
Form Factor
The device is expected to adopt a book-style fold (like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series) rather than the clamshell style.
Rumoured display sizes include an inner main screen of around 7.8 inches, and an outer display of about 5.5 inches when folded.
Build & Materials
Reports indicate Apple will emphasise durability claims of a titanium or liquid-metal hinge mechanism to reduce crease and increase longevity have circulated. The thickness is estimated at about 9–9.5 mm when folded, and roughly 4.5–4.8 mm when unfolded.
Displays & Components
Apple’s supply chain appears to centre on Samsung Display as the display partner, leveraging their foldable-panel know-how. Also, Apple is reportedly stockpiling parts in anticipation of the launch.
While full details remain under wraps, the foldable iPhone is expected to carry Apple’s top-tier hardware (think high-end chip, cameras, etc) and software optimisations to take advantage of the larger display and folding mechanism. Rumours include dual rear cameras, possible under-display front camera, and Touch ID or Face ID integration tuned for the form factor.

Unsurprisingly, the foldable iPhone is forecast to be very expensive. Many leaks point to a starting US price of around US $1,999 (or equivalent) in the US market. Some analysts have placed a broader range between US $2,000 and US $2,500.
In India, conversion of these numbers suggests a price in the region of ₹1.7–2.2 lakh (depending on taxes/import duties).
Apple’s entrée into foldables comes after years of competitor activity (Samsung, Huawei, etc). According to analysts, Apple’s strategy appears to be: launch a premium product with high margins rather than a mainstream foldable volume device. For example, JPMorgan projects shipments starting in the “low teens of millions” in the first full year, scaling to mid-40 million units by 2029.
