The Indian news media was stunned into silence as news of Times Now and ET Now’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami resignation streamed in. The announcement was made after by the man himself to his newsroom, after an editorial meeting. Reports suggest that the voracious anchor is set to start a new venture.

Goswami had become synonymous with Times Now and his 9 PM show ‘The Newshour’ commanded over 70% of the total viewership at one point of time. The Times Now lead was recently given ‘Y category’ security cover from the government after the Intelligence Bureau perceived a threat to his life from ‘Pakistan-based terrorists groups’. He was to get 24-hour protection from around 20 security personnel, including two personal security officers, who will guard him from close distance.

Goswami started his career as a print journalist in The Telegraph, before joining NDTV in 1995. He helped launch Times Now in 2006 and has been at the helm of affairs ever since.

The Quint reported that during his hour-long farewell speech he kept repeating that the ‘game has just begun’.
