On Tuesday, the entire world celebrated Eid al-Adha, which is also known as ‘Bakrid’ (Sacrifice feast) in many countries.

Thousands of animals including sheep, goats and cows were slaughtered on streets to mark the auspicious day which honours willingness of prophet Abraham to sacrifice one’s own son at the God’s command.

In Bangladesh’s capital city, the streets were flooded with river of blood as the rain poured on the festive day. Due to poor drainage system, the blood soaked water did not seep into sewer giving a ghastly look to streets of Dhaka, as reported The Guardian.

According to reports, the local authorities had claimed to have fixed spots for the slaughter but the general public continued to make sacrifices on the streets and in their garages.

A Dhaka-based artist named Atish Saha said, “I felt I was walking through a post-apocalyptic neighbourhood. To be honest, I was scared. It was an image of mass violence that shouldn’t ever be experienced.”
