Blast in factory claims 23 lives in Balaghat, Bhopal

On Wednesday, an explosion at a firecracker factory killed at least 23 people in Balaghat, Bhopal. The blast sparked a blaze around 3 pm, which firefighters tamed in two hours.

Police SP Amit Sanghi told the media that the incident happened at the Barsa fire cracker factory in Khari village, claiming 23 lives. Senior officials from police and administration reached the spot soon.

“Bodies were fished out from the rubble of the fallen structure and the injured were sent to the hospital. Eight severely injured people were sent to Nagpur for treatment, while two other injured are being treated a local hospital here”, Sanghi said.

However, many employees managed to escape unhurt.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the victims were killed in the tragedy. The state government will also bear the medical expenses of those injured.
