Budget: Karnataka govt puts limit of Rs 200 on film ticket; VAT on liquor removed

The movie tickets cannot be priced above Rs 200 each in multiplexes across the state as per the Karnataka Budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday. The Karnataka Budget for 2017-18 has proposed numerous measures that will bring a smile to alcohol and cinema lovers.  The value-added tax (VAT) on liquor will also be removed from April 1.

This was good news that Karnataka, following in the footsteps of Kolkata. “We are the highest employment generator of India. This move would mean that customers have more money, translating into more employment and revenue,” said Riyaz Amlani, president, National Restaurant Association of India as per a report in ET.

However, the high-end motorbike prices will rise, with the motor vehicle tax being escalated from 12% to 18%. This will be applicable to all motorbikes costing above Rs 1 lakh.
