Case filed against Sambit Patra in Maharashtra for derogatory language against Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi

An FIR was registered on Monday against BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra here in Chhattisgarh under the charges of promoting enmity between different groups and hurting religious feelings, police said.

According to the FIR, the case has been registered with Civil Lines police station of Raipur on the complaint of state Youth Congress president Poornachand Padhi.

Anothe case has been registered against Patra in Maharashtra by a Youth Congress leader for using derogatory words against former Primer Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi.

Youth Congress leader Brijkishore Dutt filed a complaint against Patra at Mahatma Phule Police station, Kalyan.

“We have registered a case against Patra under various sections of IPC on the complaint of Padhi and investigation in the case is going on,” said Arif Sheikh, Raipur’s superintendent of police.

The case has been registered under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc), 505(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 298 (uttering, words of Indian Penal Code ( IPC).

After the complaint Sambit Patra in a tweet said “This is not Indira Gandhi’s emergency era, nothing is going to happen by these FIRs”

Earlier, Srinivas BV, Indian Youth Congress president, had registered a complaint with the Delhi Police against BJP leader and spokesperson Sambit Patra for “defaming the party and two former Prime Ministers”.

IYC leader had accused Patra of spreading false and fake information about two former Prime Ministers — Late Jawaharlal Nehru and Late Rajiv Gandhi in a complaint to Delhi Police Commissioner S.N. Shrivastava

In his complaint, Srinivas said that Patra in his tweet explicitly uses picture with the defamatory statement in Hindi which is as follows: “Agar Corona Virus Congress ke waqt aaya hota: Rs 5,000 crore Mask Ghotala; Rs 7,000 crore Corona Test Kit Ghotala; Rs 20,000 crore Jawahar Sanitizer Ghotala and Rs 26,000 crore Rajiv Gandhi Virus Research Ghotala.”
