Kolkata, Sep 23 (IANS) Unearthing a cattle-smuggling racket, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday conducted several raids at least 15 different locations across West Bengal.

These search operations were conducted in bordering areas of Berhampore and Lalgola in Murshidabad, Siliguri, Rajarhat, Salt Lake and Topsia in Kolkata since this morning.

According to sources, the federal investigating agency also searched for the cattle-smuggling racket kingpin Enamul Haq.

They also raided the residence of a senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer, Satish Kumar, at Salt Lake BJ-Block for his alleged involvement in the cattle-smuggling nexus. The sleuths have also sealed his house, sources said. It was learnt that Kumar was posted at Siliguri but he is currently posted in Jharkhand.

Illegal cross-border cattle trade between India and neighbouring Bangladesh has been a serious issue in many West Bengal districts with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists protesting against the nuisance.

According to sources, the CBI also sent a report to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) about the cattle-smuggling racket in Bengal.
