Devastating loss! Celebs, politicians, journalists express condolences over Girish Karnad’s demise

Jnanpith award winner, multi-lingual film actor and noted theatre personality Girish Karnad took his last breadth on Monday morning at his residence in Bengaluru. He was 81. He is survived by his wife Saraswathi, son Raghu Karnad, a journalist and writer; and daughter Radha, a doctor based in Kenya.

Karnad was a prominent playwright for four decades, often using history and mythology to tackle contemporary issues. He wrote his first play – the critically-acclaimed “Yayati” in 1961. Other acclaimed plays written by him include “Tughlaq” (1964), “Hayavadana” (1972).

People from all walks including celebs, politicians, journalists extended their heartiest condolences too Karnad’s family in this tough time.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy expressed his condolences stating that the country has lost a “cultural ambassador.”
