Class 9 Syllabus 2026: Class 9 students will take lessons on money matters, such as income tax, budgeting, saving, investing, and ways to handle financial risk. This is part of the updated school syllabus.

These lessons are linked to a new NCERT Social Science book called “Understanding Society: India and Beyond – Part 2”. It was released in September 2026. The book covers how to think about personal income tax, along with other topics on managing money and the duties of citizens in the economy.

Class 9 Students Will Learn Income Tax

In the chapter titled “Managing Your Personal Finances”, the text says that good money habits start early. It covers what income is, how people plan their spending, and how savings and investments fit in. It also looks at protection from financial risks and the role of taxation.

This is also the first time at this level that the book puts in real income tax figures in a slab-wise way under India’s new tax system. Students will see how to work out tax due by using the rules for each slab.

What Will Students Learn About Personal Finance?

The official NCERT syllabus places the topic under “Smart Ways to Manage Your Finances”, with six hours allocated to the unit.

The key areas include:

  • Personal financial management
  • Inflation and purchasing power
  • Simple and compound interest
  • Budgeting
  • Savings and investment options
  • Risk and insurance
  • Personal income tax

Students should also learn why it matters to plan income, track spending, and build savings and investments for long term stability.

Income Tax Duty

This new chapter does not treat taxes like a mere math task. It links tax payments to being a responsible citizen and shows that tax money helps support growth across the country.

“India follows a slab system for calculating income tax as shown in table,” the textbook says before presenting a chart of tax slabs under the new regime. The book also places taxes next to topics like health insurance and safety nets from the state. It includes welfare programs too. This helps students see that daily money choices connect to the wider economy.

Early Look at Investments

The personal finance section covers more than taxes. It tells students to start thinking about budgets and planning sooner. It also introduces common investment options such as fixed deposits, bonds, shares and mutual funds.

Students learn how risk and return work together. That part helps them tell products apart. It also makes clear that saving is not the same as investing, even though both involve putting money aside.
