#CleanGanga crusader GD Agarwal dies, was on fast until death for nearly four months

Clean Ganga mission crusader GD Agarwal who was on fast until death dies on Thursday after 112 days on the way to Delhi for treatment in the ambulance. Agarwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February this year, about his grievances and demands.

Agarwal an IIT Kanpur professor turned environmentalist popularly known as Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand, has announced on Tuesday that he will give up even water, earlier he was surviving on only 3 glass of water a day.

The Haridwar police have forcibly admitted him to the AIIMS Haridwar on Wednesday and his health continues to deteriorate and finally, in the process of shifting him to Delhi AIIMS, he died on the way to Delhi.

He started the clean Ganga movement in 2008 and this was his sixth hunger strike, in an attempt to bring the government attention to save the Ganga river from pollution. He sat on indefinite hunger strike earlier in 2012 and broke his fast after an assurance by the state government and taken to Varanasi for treatment.

GD Agarwal was also a member of the Central Pollution Board of India.

The government did nothing to his demands and he died fighting for the cause of clean Ganga mission.
