The Congress will boycott the launch of the Good and Services Tax (GST) on June 30 midnight during a special session of Parliament. “The Congress has decided not to attend GST midnight session on June 30 in Parliament,” said Congress’ Satyavrat Chaturvedi, reported HT.

After this boycott decision, Congress has joined the Trinamool Congress. TMC has also decided to skip the event. TMC president along with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday called the GST an “epic blunder.” It had also said that the PM Modi government was in an “unnecessary disastrous hurry” to execute the plan.

GST is touted as India’s most determined tax reform plan. It aims to stitch together a general market by dismantling economic barriers between states. Once launched, there will be a standardized tax regime across the country. It will subsume a plethora of local taxes.
