Former KSEB chief engineer Kasturi Ranga Iyer (82), who had petitioned the Supreme Court almost 6.5 years ago for a relaxation of the punishment he received in the SNC-Lavalin case, passed away on Monday.

As the Supreme Court postponed the hearing of the Lavalin case for the 38th time last week, Iyer passed away at his residence in Karamana, the state capital.

Kasturi Ranga Iyer was in poor health when he was sentenced in the decades-old case in 2017. The CBI had appealed Pinarayi’s acquittal to the Supreme Court.

The Kerala High Court acquitted Pinarayi Vijayan and other accused in 2017, and Iyer and counterparts joined the CBI’s case in the Supreme Court. Iyer’s wife, Thangam Kasturi Ranga Iyer, and three children survive him. He sought relaxation in his punishments. Jyothi, Dr. Preethi, and Dr. Maya are his children.
