The court of additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ), Narinder Kaur in Rohtak has stayed the proceedings against yoga guru, Ramdev in the ‘beheading remark’ case of 2016. The case is going on in the lower court of additional civil judicial magistrate (ACJM), Harish Goyal.
The court of ACJM has issued ‘non-bailable’ warrants against Ramdev for 3 August. The development took place after he failed to obey the court’s summons under Sections 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.
During a hearing, senior advocate, Satya Pal Jain, who was representing the yoga guru, argued that the lower court had quickly issued summons and warrants against Ramdev. He said his statement was wrongly perceived to be particularly against the Muslim community.
Based on the arguments, the court of ADSJ stayed the proceedings against Ramdev in the lower court. It announced 12 September as the next date for hearing.
Ramdev, who is also the brand ambassador of Haryana, triggered controversy in April 2016, by saying that he could “behead lakhs of people refusing to chant, Bharat Mata Ki Jai if he were not bound by law.” His remark came after, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief, Asaduddin Owaisi had said that he would not chant, Bharat Mata Ki Jai even if a knife was put to his throat.
