COVID-19: West Bengal reports first death, elderly man who tested positive dies of heart attack

The deadly coronavirus cases in India are increasing rapidly with 7 deaths reported so far. Now, West Bengal has reported first death.

A 55-year-old elderly man from north Kolkata who tested positive for the novel coronavirus has died today at AMRI hospital. It’s the first death of a novel coronavirus patient in West Bengal. Reportedly, he suffered a heart attack and was on a ventilator.

He and his family had returned from Italy. He was detected COVID-19 positive after samples were sent to NICED and SSKM Hospital on March 20 and 21.

The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government on Sunday issued a notification saying Kolkata and several areas across the state will be put under lockdown from Monday 5 pm till March 27 in view of the coronavirus outbreak. Only essential services will be allowed during the period, the notification said.

For the uninitiated, the nation is witnessing a lockdown and a Janta curfew was witnessed on Sunday, March 22 as the situation worsens. India has crossed more than 400 number of positive cases.
