Defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday stressed that the government will take steps to ensure there will be no such incidents as Uri attack in which 18 Indian soldiers died. The minister added that if required there can be a knee-jerk reaction to the attack believed to be carried out by fighters from Pakistan.

“India is a responsible power, but that doesn’t mean I will sleep over terrorists sneaking into the country,” Parrikar said. As a part of retaliation to the militant attack India moved to diplomatically isolate Pakistan. “How to punish we will work out, but we are serious about it,” he said.

When Parrikar was asked about the perceived nuclear threat from Pakistan, he replied, “Empty vessels make more noise, the stronger man doesn’t argue much.”

The defence minister said he believed in the principle of zero error and stressed that India needs to ensure the errors are not repeated.
