Some video clips surfaced from Karnataka Karnataka’s Bagalkote district shows some men wearing defence uniform patrolling on motorbikes. Video clips showed them punishing people for violating lockdown that is in place to control the outbreak of coronavirus. At some places, they were even seen with the local police.
According to a NDTV report, a video from the district’s Terdal Taluk showed that a boy travelling with a 20 litre water bottle without wearing was made to do military press as a punishment. According to the report, a man was made to do sit-ups while holding his ears.
They are doing this without any prior permission of their respective commands.
After some villagers along with civil authorities raised the issue about patrolling, the Superintendent of Bagalkote said that appropriate action will be taken into the matter.
“They are soldiers from various Forces and are volunteering with village panchayats for non-policing work as they are on leave. However, they’re not permitted to do policing and patrolling which we have warned them against strictly,” Lokesh HJ, Superintendent of Police, Bagalkote was quoted as saying by NDTV.
On the other hand, a CRPF elite commando was chained by the Karnataka police for reportedly not wearing mask. The shocking incident took place just 150 kms from Bagalkote.
The commando, who was in civilian clothes and on leave at his hometown Belagavi, alleges he was beaten up, handcuffed and made to sit on the floor.
The CRPF jawan, who was on leave at his hometown Belagavi, was wearing civilian dress when the incident took place. He alleged that he was beaten up by cops. The state government has now ordered an inquiry in to the matter.
