The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released its first list of 57 candidates for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
While announcing the candidates’ names, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari mentioned that of 57, 11 are from SC community, four are women.
Kapil Mishra will contest from Model Town, Vijender Gupta to contest from Rohini, Rekha Gupta from Shalimar Bagh, Suman Kumar Gupta from Chandni Chowk.
The BJP had won only three assembly seats in the previous assembly elections, while the AAP had won 67. However, BJP had won all seven Lok Sabha seats in 2019, with record settings vote percentage.
While Kejriwal is relying on populist schemes, like free electricity and water besides free ride for women in the government-run buses, besides his work to boost education and health infrastructure, the BJP is eyeing to oust him from power on the Modi government’s decision to grant ownership rights to people living in unauthorised colonies and planks like the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
Delhi goes to polls on February 8. The results will be declared on February 11.
