Delhi-based lawyer Rohit Tandon was detained by the Enforcement Directorate on late Wednesday night in link with the continuing money laundering case against him. Tandon was arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

He will be produced before the court for further custody.  According to ED, Tandon allegedly converted demonetised currencies worth about Rs 60 crore in purported involvement with Kolkata-based capitalist Paras Mal Lodha and detained Kotak Bank manager in Delhi Ashish Kumar.

Reddy was detained by CBI from Chennai. Lodha and Kumar too have been in prison apart from two others. Earlier in December, Income-Tax officials conducted raids on a law firm possessed by Tandon in the national capital. The agency seized around Rs 14 crore, of which Rs 2.5 crore was in new notes.

Tandon’s statement was recorded by ED last week in its money laundering probe.

The lawyer earlier declared undisclosed income worth more than Rs 125 crore to the taxman. A hunt was initiated separately then by the tax department.

Now, two cases involving Tandon and Reddy are being investigated by at least four prominent agencies of the nation including the ED, I-T department, CBI and Delhi Police.

In Chennai, the Income Tax department has made the biggest exposure of unaccounted income of over Rs 142 crore in Reddy’s case.
