To ensure swift action during the upcoming monsoon season, the Delhi government has introduced a centralized helpline — 311 — allowing residents to report rain-related problems through a single contact number. The announcement was made by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma during his inspection of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Control and Command Centre, which will manage the operations of this helpline.

“Our vision is ‘One Delhi, One Number’. Citizens no longer need to figure out which department to call. Just dial 311 and your complaint will be routed to the right place instantly,” said the Minister.

Round-the-Clock Monitoring During Monsoon

The NDMC Control and Command Centre will function 24/7 throughout the rainy season. Officials from key agencies like the Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will be stationed at the centre to ensure quick responses to complaints related to:

  • Waterlogging

  • Broken or damaged roads

  • Choked drains

  • Overflowing sewers

Tech-Driven Solutions for Flood Management

In preparation for the rains, the government has upgraded all pumping stations with automated flood control systems. CCTV cameras have also been installed in vulnerable areas to monitor conditions in real time and deploy resources wherever needed.

Unified Governance: One Centre, Multiple Departments

A joint coordination meeting with all concerned departments is scheduled in the next 2-3 days to finalize operations at the command centre. This includes assigning departmental representatives, establishing accountability protocols, and integrating digital systems to enable seamless inter-department communication.

A Step Towards Sustainable Urban Governance

Beyond immediate monsoon readiness, the 311 helpline aligns with Delhi’s broader aim of becoming a net-zero, eco-friendly, and citizen-centric city. By simplifying public complaint mechanisms and speeding up resolution, the government hopes to build a more resilient and inclusive capital.

What Should Citizens Do?

Starting this monsoon, Delhi residents can report any rain-related issue simply by dialing 311. The government has assured timely redressal, with real-time tracking of complaint status and department-wise accountability.
