New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) A 40-year-old man, identified as Rakesh Mehta, was arrested for making a hoax call about a bomb at India Gate, the police said here on Tuesday.

The accused lives in Faridabad with his two brothers and is a daily wager.

“During the interrogation, the accused said he was drunk when he made the call. He was also frustrated about being single at 40,” said Eish Singhal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi.

On Monday, a call was received at 01.47 p.m by the PCR at Tilak Marg police station. The caller claimed in the next five minutes, a bomb would explode at India Gate.

A police team was rushed to the spot. “Being a critical call, the bomb disposal team, water bowser and fire tenders were also summoned. India Gate and its surroundings were checked and sanitized,” the police said.

Several attempts to establish contact with the caller went in vain. Later, the caller’s details were accessed, which showed him to be a Govindpuri resident. But on reaching there, the police came to know that he had shifted out 5-6 months ago.

The current location was in Vinay Nagar, Faridabad. He could not be traced there either. Rakesh was later arrested by a special cell team from Deepali Enclave in Faridabad said the senior official.
