Delhi Vehicle Ban 2026: From November 1 2026, Delhi has implemented new measures to curb air pollution in the region during the winter. Vehicles registered outside the national capital which are not Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) compliant will be banned from entering the city until January 31 2027.
New measures have been introduced as part of the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The authorities are increasing checks on vehicles entering the city and will use vehicle registration to identify non-compliant vehicles.
Police also issued route guidance. Noida Traffic Police told AP in an advisory: “Except BS-6, CNG and electric vehicles, entry of vehicles, passenger buses, trucks etc. registered in other states outside Delhi has been banned in the state of Delhi.” It advised travellers heading beyond Delhi to use the Noida Expressway or Yamuna Expressway via Zero Point, Pari Chowk, Kasna, Sirsa and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. The advisory added: “In view of the above restriction, vehicles going elsewhere via Delhi will be able to reach their destination using Noida/Greater Noida Expressway/Yamuna Expressway from Zero Point, Parichowk, Kasna town, Sirsa and Eastern Peripheral Expressway.”
Yes, however this will depend on your vehicles emissions, fuel type and whether they are exempt.
If you are a private or commercial driver, make sure your vehicle is compliant.
Delhi are increasing monitoring at entry points. Checks will be carried out on registration, emissions and valid PUC.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras can be used to identify registrations. Officials are also increasing staffing at key entry points.
The Delhi Traffic Police posted: “From 1 November 2026, vehicle entry into Delhi will be restricted under the revised GRAP rules. ✅ Allowed: BS-VI, CNG, electric and exempted vehicles, subject to applicable rules. ⛔ Restrictions apply to: Vehicles below BS-VI standards Vehicles without a valid PUCC Non-compliant interstate buses Trucks not destined for Delhi (use peripheral expressways) Tractors and jugaad vehicles, as applicable Certain vehicles registered outside Delhi 📅 Check your vehicle’s eligibility before travelling and follow official traffic advisories. 📞 Traffic Helpline: 011-25844444 / 1095 #DTPUpdates #GRAP2026”.
Mumbai: BMC Introduces 28 Rules to Control Construction Dust and Air Pollution
Bharat Stage emissions are a set of guidelines on how much pollutants can be emitted by vehicles. Currently vehicles sold in India must be BS-VI compliant. This means they have lower emission limits than older BS-III and BS-IV standards.
This is especially important in the winter as weather can cause pollutants to become trapped closer to the ground.
Vehicles are one of the causes of pollution in Delhi-NCR. Other causes include construction dust, industry and burning waste.
The CAQM revised the GRAP framework in September 2026. This meant some measures that were previously in Stage II will now be in Stage I. This includes the ban on vehicles entering the city such as buses from the NCR and adjacent states which aren’t BS-VI compliant.
Those travelling from Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and other cities in the NCR should:
1. Check your vehicles are BS-VI compliant or exempt.
2. Ensure you have a valid PUC.
3. Make sure you have your registration certificate and other required documentation.
4. Check the latest updates from the Delhi Traffic Police.
5. Consider taking the Metro, public transport or carpool if your vehicle isn’t allowed.
