Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim convicted of raping two followers

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, head of the religious sect, Dera Sacha Sauda, was convicted of raping two women by a CBI court on Friday. The case had riveted the nation and sent millions of his followers into a frenzy. He will now have to face up to seven years in prison.

The Haryana Police have taken Ram Rahim into custody, and he will be taken to Rohtak jail in a chopper.

The verdict comes after the women, his former followers, accused the self-styled leader of sexually abusing them at the cult’s sprawling headquarters in Sirsa 15 years ago.

The quantum of punishment on will be decided on Monday, a CBI counsel said, as reported by HT. The verdict was finally announced after 200 hearings spread over 10 years and numerous stay orders of higher courts.
