In a significant escalation of regional tensions, the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore has ordered all personnel to shelter-in-place following multiple reports of drone explosions, downed drones, and possible airspace incursions in and around the city.
According to an official alert issued by the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan, U.S. personnel movements in Lahore have been restricted amid growing concerns over aerial threats and security risks. The consulate also acknowledged initial reports suggesting that Pakistani authorities may begin evacuating some areas near Lahore’s main airport.
The alert specifically advises U.S. citizens in affected zones to leave if it is safe to do so. However, those unable to evacuate are urged to remain indoors and shelter-in-place until further notice. “U.S. citizens who find themselves in an area of active conflict should leave if they can do so safely. If it is not safe to leave, they should shelter-in-place,” the advisory noted.
To keep U.S. nationals informed, the embassy urged enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which provides real-time safety updates.
The embassy has outlined several critical safety measures:
Seek secure shelter immediately.
Have evacuation plans that do not depend on U.S. government support.
Ensure travel documents are up to date and accessible.
Monitor local news and developments.
Carry valid identification and fully cooperate with local authorities.
This development comes amid heightened regional instability, though specific details on the origin or targets of the drone activity have not yet been confirmed.
The U.S. Embassy emphasized that it will continue to provide updates through its official communication channels.
