Every year, at 8:30 pm on the last Saturday of March, millions of people across the world join in raising awareness of the issues facing our planet. This hour is known as ‘Earth Hour’ and in 2021 it will fall on 27th March.
A common question that occurs in one’s mind is what 60 minutes can do and what are the other things which one can do.
60 minutes or Earth Hour has effected many changes in the world. The Earth Hour has helped in the creation of 3.5 million hectares protected marine area in Argentina, a 2,700-hectare Earth Hour forest in Uganda, secured new legislation for the protection of seas and forests in Russia, pushed for a ban on single-use plastics and Styrofoam products in the Ecuadorian capital, and initiated the planting of 20,000 mangrove seedlings in 13 cities in Indonesia.
This is the DNA of the Earth Hour movement. Switch off your lights for an hour on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 8:30 pm your local time.
Earth Hour 2021 is going to be a special global event this year. It will be the first-ever Earth Hour “Virtual Spotlight” this year.
This year, among the current global issues, WWF is inviting people to raise awareness and create an unforgettable sight online. You can simply share the must-watch videos to your peer groups to raise awareness that will be posted on all the social media pages of EARTHHOUR.ORG. You can follow Instagram/ Facebook/ Twitter to stay tuned with the uploading of the must-watch videos.
Earth Hour has always drawn its power from the people. Bring your community together (virtually) for the Hour and be a local champion of a global movement.
Awareness is the first step before action. Learn about the two biggest challenges of our time, and why they are more interconnected than you might think.
