According to the Haramain Sharifain news, June 30 is set to be the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah in Saudi, July 8 marking Arafat Day 2022, and Saturday, July 9 marking the first day of Eid Al Adha 2022.
Eid ul-adha is the second Eid celebration of the year, the first being Eid al-Fitr which took place in May.
The celebration of Eid ul-adha, which is considered to be the holier of the two Eids, is to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah, who was willing to sacrifice his son, Ismail.
At the point of sacrifice, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram, which was to be sacrificed in place of his son.
The original command from Allah was a test of Prophet Ibrahim’s commitment to obey his Lord’s command, without question.
Therefore, Eid ul-adha means the festival of sacrifice. This event is mentioned in the Quran, the Islamic Holy Book.
The day of Eid ul-adha falls on the tenth day in the twelfth and final month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar, Dhu-al-Hijjah.
The day on which celebrations for Eid-ul-adha falls is dependent on a legitimate sighting of the moon, following the completion of the Holy Pilgrimage of Hajj – an annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims.

Algeria will officially celebrate Eid Al Adha 2022 on Saturday, July 9, the country’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments announced on Wednesday evening.

According to the HM Nautical Almanac Office, which provides astronomical data to a wide variety of organisations in the UK, the new moon will be born at 3.52am on Wednesday, June 29. Despite this, it's important to contact your local mosque if you're unsure on the start date for Dhu al-Hijah.
The pilgrimage may only be performed over a five to six-day period on the 8th, 12th, or 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah - the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
While the official date for the start of Hajj is subject to official moon sightings, it is estimated among the majority of scholars that the pilgrimage will open on Thursday, July 7 and end on Tuesday, July 12.
Observers from these countries will venture to observe the crescent on Wednesday, June 29.
Once the sun has risen fully, devout Muslims will pray ahead of the Dhuhr prayer at noon. Muslims will greet each other using the celebratory phrase “Eid Mubarak,” and traditionally exchange gifts and share food with friends and family.
Dhul-Hijjah begins following the sighting of the crescent moon, a date that shifts from year to year. The nature of the Islamic Hijri calendar means that it’s not possible to predict its date exactly – however, we will have a little more warning than with Eid al-Fitr, which falls at the start of the month.
Dhul-Hijjah is the 12th and most sacred month of the Islamic Hijri calendar, during which the Hajj pilgrimage and Eid al-Adha, the festival of the sacrifice, take place.
If the moon is sighted according to these predictions, it means that the Eid al-Adha festival is set to begin on the evening of Saturday 9 July and last four days, coming to an end on the evening of Wednesday 13 July.
Officials and members of the public try to sight the moon on the 29th day of any given month - if it's observed the month comes to an end and if not the month goes on one more day. At this point, Dhul Hijjah is predicted to begin on Thursday, June 30, followed by Eid ul Adha on July 9.
