The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Election Commission and the state government on a petition regarding the EVM tampering in Dehradun’s Vikasnagar constituency.

The petition, filed by former cabinet minister Navprabhat, has alleged that there were tampering and manipulation of EVMs at the constituency during the Assembly polls.

In the polls, BJP candidate Munna Singh Chauhan had defeated Navprabhat by 6,418 votes.

Justice Shailesh Kumar Gupta asked the Election Commission, its state unit, the state chief secretary, the returning officer of Vikasnagar and Chauhan to file their replies within six weeks, Indian Express reported.

The court also directed Vikasnagar judicial magistrate to seal and seize the alleged EVM machines in his custody.

The petitioner also alleged that there were many fake names in the voters list and the BJP candidate was listed as a voter in two different places.
