Ex-RSS Trivendra Singh Rawat to be sworn in as Uttarakhand CM on Saturday

Ending the suspense on the state’s new chief minister’s name, a former RSS pracharak Trivendra Singh Rawat has been elected the leader of the new BJP legislative party in Uttarakhand and will take oath as CM on Saturday.

As per reports, this was brought to Rawat’s knowledge last night, however, he is to be officially elected on Friday.  Rawat, 56, is particularly known to be close to Amit Shah.  He is currently in-charge of the party’s Jharkhand unit. Rawat was associated with RSS and played a vital part of the organising secretary of Uttarakhand from 1983 to 2002.

Following the sweeping victory of BJP in assembly elections, the freshly elected BJP MLAs are scheduled to meet on Saturday. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP general secretary Saroj Pandey, the state’s election in-charge Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and party state in charge Shyam Jaju will also be attending the meeting.

The oath-taking ceremony for the Chief Minister is expected to be held in Dehradun on March 18. “The new chief minister will take oath on March 18 at 3 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah and several other senior leaders will be present on the occasion,” said state BJP president Ajay Bhatt.

“We have asked all the MLAs to be present in Dehradun on March 17 and 18.”
