Former Haryana minister Om Prakash Jain passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Delhi due to COVID-19 infection and lungs infection.

Om Prakash Jain had been the transport minister in the government of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda. The minister won the rural seat of Panipat as an independent candidate. He was later given the charge of transport minister.

Earlier, he won during Chaudhary Bansilal government in 1996. Om Prakash Jain won both times as an independent candidate.

The Transport Minister was stripped of his rank following accusations of his involvement in the murder of a former sarpanch of a Karnal village. An independent MLA from Panipat, Jain was one of the seven independent MLAs who were rewarded with ministerial berths for supporting Congress in 2009 to form the government.

The Congress was left searching for a simple majority in 90 member house when it managed to win only 40 seats in 2009 assembly polls.
