Former PM Manmohan Singh turns 85; PM Modi wishes ‘long life, good health’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished his predecessor Manmohan Singh on his birthday praying for his long life on Tuesday. “Warm birthday wishes to our former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. May he lead a long life filled with good health,” Modi tweeted.

Singh, who was the prime minister between 2004 and 2014 during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, turned 85 today.

His political stint started in 1991 when he was chosen as the country’s finance minister under late PM PV Narasimha Rao’s rule. It was the same period during which he aided usher in “liberalisation and privatisation” to the Indian economy.
